Castletownbere Community Hospital serves the entire Beara peninsula including Bere Island and Dursey Island.

The building itself is situated on the seafront with stunning views of Berehaven harbour and port. The hospital has continuing care beds, respite, palliative care, and community support .

Castletownbere Community Hospital was established as a residential centre in 1932 and provides long stay, respite, community support and palliative care.

It is registered for the care of 33 residents; however, with recent changes to the layout of bedrooms it currently can only accommodate 31.

The building is single storey and was a former coastguard station. The main entrance opens into a bright and pleasant sitting room.

The external grounds are well maintained with ample car parking facilities.

Exit doors have an electronic alarm system for residents with cognitive impairment assessed as being at risk of wandering from the premises.

A number of Health Service Executive (HSE) services, for example, a day centre, operate from the same site as the community hospital but are managed independently.
